Expository Preaching Academy
for new and seasoned preachers alike a ministry of…Grace Pointe Church
Saint Cloud, Florida

God’s Word is without error and contains the good news, which is “the power of God for salvation.” Therefore the Bible’s meaning—not our ability—is the power by which He changes hearts and lives.
The Expository Preaching Academy equips preachers to rightly understand and communicate the meaning of God’s Word and apply it to lives today.
Program Outline
Expository Preaching
“Expository preaching is text driven preaching that honors the truth of Scripture as it was given by the Holy Spirit. Its goal is to discover the God-inspired meaning through historical-gram-matical-theological investigation and interpretation. By means of engaging and compelling proclamation, the preacher explains, illustrates and applies the meaning of the biblical text in submission to and in the power of the Holy Spirit, preaching Christ for a verdict of changed lives.“
Daniel L. Akin
Simply put, expository preaching is boldly proclaiming what God has already said in His Word, divinely empowered and attended by the power of His Spirit.
Lab Environment
It is often the case that those called to preach the Word of God have no environment in which to practice their skills during their season of learning and preparation. Even those in seminary will have few opportunities to actually practice preaching!
Class sessions offers students the opportunity to prepare and deliver their sermons in front of their classmates and receive helpful feedback.
Students who preach in our lab environment will also receive a video recording of their sermon so they can self-critique as well.
Socratic Learning
Students will learn about the characteristics and mechanics of sermon preparation and delivery. Professors teach using the socratic method, rather than lectures.
Socratic Method: “A dialogue between teacher and students, instigated by the continual probing questions of the teacher, in a concerted effort to explore the underlying beliefs that shape the students views and opinions.“
The Institute for Learning and Teaching
Students will share ideas and have their ideas challenged as we all probe deeper into the meaning of Scripture, its nature, and the responsibilities of the preacher to preach it.
Prospective Students
The Academy is best suited for:
1) Future or present pastors looking to prepare or sharpen their preaching skills.
2) Seasoned preachers looking to stay sharpened in their craft.
3) Students grade 6 and up interested in preaching (must attend with a parent or guardian).
Given 1 Timothy 2-3 specify pastoral ministry as a calling placed on men, mostly men attend classes, however women who teach in non-pastoral contexts looking to sharpen their teaching skills are welcome to attend.
Course Materials
Though not required, the following materials are recommended in conjunction with class sessions:
Christ-Centered Preaching: Redeeming the Expository Sermon
by Bryan Chapell
Engaging Exposition
by Daniel Akin, Bill Curtis, and Stephen N Rummage
Power in the Pulpit: How to Prepare and Deliver Expository Sermons

Program Length and Cost
Class sessions are held once-per-month on a Saturday morning to enable as many to attend as possible. The program has no definite length, so students are welcome to attend once or indefinitely if they like.
The program is completely free.

That is fine. Some students attend once per quarter and some attend every month. Classes are held as often as they are to provide lab preaching opportunities to as many students as possible.
Detailed class schedules are provided upon enrollment.

That is fine. You are in the right place, as you will be surrounded by people who will encourage you as you take your first steps.
We even welcome young people (grades 6 and up attending with a parent or guardian) with a serious interest in preaching or who are feeling called to ministry one day.
